“Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

The strong, deep voice broke the stillness. Kelita turned slowly. The King was standing on the edge of the lake, gazing at her with eyes so full of love that Kelita felt her heart would break. Moving forward, the princess opened her mouth to speak, when she suddenly felt something above her head. She looked up and there, sparkling and glistening in the bright sunlight, was her crown. There was no trace of the blackened, cracked mass that she saw fall to the floor earlier. It had been restored to its former glory. A whirlwind of emotions filled her mind as the wind and light engulfed her, the crown becoming a part of her once again. As the wind died away, Kelita walked towards her Father, the King. Kneeling before Him in the pure white snow, she gazed up at His face.

“Father, I have sinned, and am no longer worthy to be called your child.” Her voice wavered through the admission, her eyes brimming with tears.

King Jezoar reached out His hand and lifted Kelita to her feet. Cupping her face with His hands, and looked deeply into her eyes.

“Daughter,” He said earnestly. “Neither death nor life, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing can separate you from my love. For I am always ready to forgive when I hear you call on me. As far as the east is from the west, I have removed your transgression.”

Tears ran down Kelita’s face as she listened to the wonderful words of her Father.

“You are my daughter, whom I love. I will never leave nor forsake you, sweetheart.” The King smiled. “You chose well, and your gift has been restored to you.”

With a heart full to overflowing with gratitude and love, Kelita was folded into her Father’s embrace.

Princess Kelita learnt a lesson that day that she never forgot. She knew now that the talents and gifts she had were not her own. They were her Father’s. It was her responsibility to use them in a way that would bring her Father happiness, because in happiness, there she found her own joy.

The Snow Queen was never heard of again. Although there were times that Kelita thought she heard the softest whispering of her voice, she never heeded it. Using her own gifts in self gratification would never bring her happiness, as she had found out. She went about her Father’s business with gladness, knowing her talent and the gift of Grace were being used for the greatest purpose: running the King’s beautiful kingdom.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding... She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
(Proverbs 4:7 & 9)

  1. I read all three parts back to back, and they form a good fantasy story that illustrates the Bible verses well.

  2. Thanks Jonathan. The whole thing had a bit of a rushed feel to it for me though; I didn't really have a fully-formed idea for the background of the story, only the ice-skating scene, which caused it to seem a little patchy. It could probably do with some more work.

  3. It didn't feel rushed overall, since fairy tales often move quickly, but there were a few places that felt patchy or rushed.

  4. Yep; I guess it could do with a bit of re-writing in places.
